Our Top 3 Tips for a Safe 4th of July!

flag

The 4th of July is tomorrow and we at Rethink the Drink know how much fun it is to cook out with friends and family and enjoy the holiday. However, you can have just as much fun, if not more, without alcohol! Here are our top three tips for celebrating Independence Day safely and alcohol-free!

>> 1) Eliminate alcohol from your 4th of July party! — Alcohol and fireworks, physical activity, and driving DO. NOT. MIX. Considering most 4th of July parties involve all of those things, keep your friends and family safe by eliminating the alcohol. Not only is it extremely dangerous to mix alcohol and fireworks, but it is potentially fatal to mix alcohol with intense physical activity (in summer heat) and driving. Just don’t do it. Rethink the drink.

>> 2) Designate sober drivers for those who do drink! — Even if you choose not to serve alcohol at your own get-together, some of your guests may bring their own or may have been drinking already by the time they arrive. Make sure that EVERYONE who has consumed alcohol has a safe, sober driver to take them home. Confiscate keys if you have to. Do you part to keep intoxicated drivers off the road!

>> 3) Stay hydrated! — If your party is outdoors, it can get extremely toasty. Make sure you have plenty of alcohol-free beverages to keep yourself and your guests hydrated for a full day of fun!

We truly hope you have a fun, safe holiday tomorrow! Happy 4th of July from Rethink the Drink!

3 Tips for An Alcohol-Free Summer

friends

As the school year winds down to an end, everyone has summer on their minds! It’ll be here before we know it and we should all prepare to have a safe, fun summer season! Here are 5 tips for staying sober this summer and finding clean and safe ways to celebrate the sun!

1 // When throwing parties, serve a variety of alcohol-free punches and drinks! — It’s not hard to throw together a tasty punch with soda, fruit juice, and fresh fruit! You could also serve flavored waters and teas to refresh your guests.

2 // Hang around with the friends who support your decision to abstain from drinking. — The “right crowd” is so important. Don’t hang around with people who are tempting you to make bad decisions or to harm your body. Find friends who support and encourage you to follow your convictions.

3 // When spending time with friends, go outside and get active in the sunshine! — Exercise and the outdoors are both helpful in increasing endorphins and “feel-good” combinations of hormones. Get out there and get your high the healthy way!

4 //We truly hope that you’ll take these tips to heart and strive to have a healthy, happy summer!

Safe St. Patrick’s Day!

Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s day and many teens and adults choose to celebrate with alcoholic drinks and cocktails. Madd.org urges those folks to pick designated drivers early so that there is no chance of drunk driving in your friend group. Better yet, abstain from alcohol entirely! There are plenty of other ways to have a good time without resorting to alcoholic drinks. Alcohol is a dangerous drug that can lead to death if it is misused. Be wise. Rethink the drink.
