Stick With Good Friends

Cedartown SADD and bannerPeer pressure is no joke. You know what it’s like to surround yourself with people who put pressure on you. A good way to stop that is to stick with those friends who help you to become a better person and “break up” with the ones that bring you down. Sure, some feelings might get hurt, but you have to think about your future. Do you want to be a person who helps others grow and become better people? If that’s what you want to do with your own life, don’t you want to have friends who feel the same way?

Take a good, hard look at your community. Take a look at the folks you hang out with. Are they pressuring you to do things you know are harmful or less than you deserve? It will be hard, but move on from people like that and stick with the ones who really love and support your life goals.

Make wise decisions together! There is strength in numbers! Just like peer pressure can lead you to make bad decisions, having a group of supportive friends can also help you to keep making good decisions. Be a good friend today!

It’s that time of year. The first projects are bogging your teens down with school stress. Mid-terms may seem far off now, but they’ll be here before you know it. Help your teen adjust to the stresses of educational life in healthy ways. If you notice your teen is spending inordinate amounts of time partying or isolated and alone (i.e., the extremes), make sure you know about your teen’s views on drinking to relieve stress.

It is common knowledge that alcohol is a dangerous drug and though teens often realize this, the peer pressure of friends, or the desire to have fun and forget about life’s stressors can lead them to abuse this seemingly innocuous drug. Here are some great parent-targeted articles to help you learn how to communicate with your teens about alcohol abuse:

Alcohol Still Deadliest Drug in America

Posted: August 19, 2014 by cpmacartersville in Useful Information

According to a recent article in the Washington Post, alcohol is still the deadliest drug in America. If you thought it might have been meth or heroine, you’d be wrong. Next time you pat yourself on the back for drinking “just” alcohol instead of using other drugs, remember that you’re only fooling yourself. Alcohol is a killer, just like every other drug.

If you never use Google or Bing (or whatever search engine grabs you) to look up “alcohol” in their news section, you should. You might learn something about the dangers of alcohol. You would definitely find gems like this link:

>> Honest Alcohol Labels by The Huffington Post

When many teens and young adults head back to middle school, high school, and college, it means being around influences that they aren’t necessarily exposed to during summer and other breaks. For many college students, heading back to campus means heading back to endless partying and drinking. The same can be true for middle and high schoolers. The devastation that can come from drinking is staggering. Check out these informative articles and rethink the drink!
