A new article published in the Huffington Post discusses the fact that increased alcohol consumption can worsen PTSD symptoms. It is no secret that alcohol can intensify and worsen existing health and emotional concerns. It should come as no surprise that PTSD can be exacerbated with increased alcohol consumption. PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder, is caused by experiencing, witnessing, or being part of a traumatic event. Many individuals resort to alcohol and other drugs to self-medicate the pain caused by PTSD, but it isn’t helpful and can in fact make the pain much worse in the long run (and create other health concerns). Read the entire article for more information and encourage those in your life who suffer from PTSD to seek counseling, therapeutic aid, and healthy outlets for healing.
